The International Commercial, Tech & Transactions practice group advises clients on all aspects of (international) commercial law, covering domestic and cross border agreements and transactions. The Team is led by Geert Bovy who has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements (e.g., sourcing, manufacturing, logistics, distribution, agency, franchising, selective distribution, sales. etc.) both in business-to-business and business-to-consumer contexts. The team also advises clients on regulatory issues, marketing, promotion, labelling and advertising of consumer products. The practice also assists its clients in dispute resolution and litigation.

Function

BakerMcKenzie is seeking a talented and ambitious mid-level or senior associate. Interested applicants should be able to demonstrate exemplary technical skills and relish the opportunity to join a truly unique and successful international team.

The role will involve:

  • Advising Belgian and international clients on all aspects of (international) commercial law, covering domestic and cross border agreements and transactions
  • Drafting and negotiating a wide range of (international) commercial agreements
  • Assisting clients in relation to commercial aspects of national and international transactions, working closely with BakerMcKenzie’s transactional practice (e.g. TSAs and critical supply agreements)
  • Advise clients on marketing, promotion and advertising
  • Assist the team’s clients in contentious matters, including pre-litigation assistance, litigation and settlement negotiations
  • Developing relationships with clients, understanding clients’ businesses, economic drivers, markets, and sectors so as to relevant and business-oriented advice
  • Working as part of a team and taking an active role in sharing knowledge and coaching more junior associates

Profile

  • Strong academic background (Belgian law degree)
  • 5 – 7 years of relevant experience
  • High quality work standards
  • Strong client-service orientation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Business acumen. Secondment or other in-house experience is a plus
  • Ability to work well both in a team and individually
  • Fluent in English and Dutch
