The European Headquarters, located in Diegem, is looking for a Legal Counsel EMEA (f/m) to support its legal department.
You provide a variety of general legal commercial and compliance support to all businesses and functions in the region of Europe, Africa and Middle East (EMEA). In addition, the role has a strong focus on ethics and on business risks management.
From a geographical perspective, the Legal Counsel EMEA focuses primarily on the South Region (Benelux, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Israel, South Africa and Sub-Sahara Africa, French speaking Africa) and on a number of countries in the North Region (UK, Ireland, Scandinavia). Depending on the experience and language skills, the role can also cover or develop into the German speaking countries of the North Region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and/or the Middle East region.
From a business and functional perspective, the Legal Counsel EMEA covers all businesses operating in EMEA selling products, services, software and solutions to a wide variety of industries. In addition, the Legal Counsel EMEA provides support primarily to the Sales, Channels and Marketing function, as well as to the functions of Contract & Negotiation, Corporate Secretarial, HR, Finance, Pricing, Credit Control and Customer Care.
You closely collaborate with the EMEA legal team (including a paralegal based at the EMEA HQ and a Legal Counsel based in Katowice, Poland), the global Commercial Law Team and other colleagues of the Office of General Counsel (OGC) in EMEA and globally, including legal and compliance subject matter experts who operate from our global HQ in Milwaukee, USA (such as, Global Trade Compliance, Contracts & Negotiations, Environmental Health & Safety, Information Security, Government Affairs and Product Safety). The Legal Counsel EMEA also interacts regularly with our network of local outside legal counsels.
You will interact with internal clients at different levels of the organization. The OGC has the goal to tailor its support role towards different industries and to support the company’s increasing customer focus. Developing a network at customers, trade associations and business partners is encouraged.
You are a European qualified lawyer with minimum 5 years of general commercial and corporate experience in an inhouse legal role, operating in an international context. Prior experience in a law firm environment or governmental agency is considered a plus.
Strong contract, company, employment, distribution and competition law skills and experience with building a compliance culture and handling sensitive compliance and ethical issues are required.
Experience in a technology company and with privacy and social relations laws, with complaints and litigation handling, with M&A/JVs, and with anti-corruption and other compliance areas are considered a plus. Experience in supporting businesses in emerging countries is an important plus.
You receive assignments in the form of goals and objectives and determines the process by which to meet goals and objectives. The Legal Counsel EMEA is capable of working independently with little supervision. You explore and identify areas of risk and legal support and compliance needs, demonstrates good judgement and has a pragmatic and business oriented approach.
Strong business partnering skills, including the ability to balance this against the compliance role. Networking, collaborating well and communicating effectively with colleagues and internal clients at different levels and with senior management and functional leaders throughout the company.
Resolving wide range of issues in creative, pragmatic and effective ways. Having an open, optimistic and solutions driven approach. Ability to think strategically and globally, interested in looking at issues from a wider company point of view and focus on continuously improving how the company operates.
Ability to manage the diverse aspects of the role, to manage efficiently the day to day work and reserving sufficient time to proactively reach out to, and partner with, the business and functions.
Fluency in English (written and spoken) is critical. Knowledge of German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian or other language spoken in the EMEA Region is considered a plus.
